This is an old news already, but writing anyway. Last week, Indian Supreme Court has decriminalized gay sex. Sec 377, a controversial British-era law that banned consensual gay-sex, has been partially struck down by this historic judgement!
The members of the bench that delivered this landmark judgement said that majority views cannot dictate constitutional rights and that social morality cannot violate the rights of even a single individual! Now that's so right, ain't it? The bench went a step further and even said that society and history owe an apology to LGBTQ community and their families! Wow, that's commendable...people speaking so honestly and accepting historic mistakes. More details here and here.
I don't really know the repercussions of this judgement (some do fear this will lead to increase in group sex and number of pedophiles etc etc), but on the outset, I feel it's a welcoming change for many of those who are in the closet. Things might not change immediately, it might still take a generation or two, but at least it seems like the beginning of a brighter journey ahead for many.
